Hampshire Archery Association is the home of archery in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands in the UK. The Association is affiliated to SCAS (Southern Counties Archery Society) and Archery GB (GNAS) who are the governing body for the sport in the UK.

Archery is a sport for all ages and abilities and is great for families. There are over 50 archery clubs in Hampshire and most offer beginners courses. If you interested in trying archery get in touch with one of the clubs listed here.

The Hampshire and West Sussex ‘Junior Performance Pathway’ sessions have been established for several years now and take place once a month on a Saturday morning throughout the winter season (typically October through to end Feb/Early March).  These sessions take place at Havant and South Downs College, Waterlooville  PO7 8AA.   Currently the cost of each session is £15, payable on arrival.

The sessions are aimed at archers age 8 – 18 (although some continue  to come after 18), from across Hampshire and West Sussex, who are interested in meeting other young archers and learning how to improve their technique to shoot at a higher standard in competitions.

Session plans vary from month to month, building on work done in previous sessions.  Coaching is tailored to varying individual abilities and each session has a specific theme.  Archers are expected to have the commitment and enthusiasm to progress in the sport.

Archers will learn more about:

•         making an individual development plan

•         the latest skills and drills

•         aspects of physical readiness

•         mental preparation for competitions

•         aspects of their individual shooting technique, with constructive feedback from coaches about areas to work on.

Club coaches are also welcome and encouraged to come with their juniors.  If the coaches have any questions we’re very happy for them to get in touch.

The juniors who attend currently say that their technique, accuracy and strength has improved as a result.  Those who benefit most commit to attending all of the sessions throughout a winter season.  Many come back year after year.  They also enjoy the social aspect of it, getting to know other junior archers who they then see at competitions in the region.
